An apple is a more reliable method of staying awake than consuming a cup of coffee. The natural sugar in the apple is more potent than the caffeine in the coffee. That’s Good News! This might be the perfect little push to get me through the day when mid-afternoon rolls around and another cup of burnt coffee just won’t cut it. What began as a lark, evolved into a habit that I partake of most days. I love it!
I love the mental break. My last escape of the day when I gather with colleagues, take a short walk, or pet the dog – all while munching on my apple. If at all possible, I go outside. Whether at work or on a weekend, I sometimes feel overwhelmed. I start to feel stress and fatigue. I can’t focus, and my passion is lost. This little breather puts me back in the game. It restores my mind and soul. This self-care habit gives me an added sense of well-being, allowing me to prioritize my life (or just the afternoon) better and keeps me focused on the tasks at hand.
I no longer slug through long afternoons trying to make it to five, or six – or whatever time my ‘day’ is concluded. I just have to get to 3 o’clock. And, it’s time to enjoy my apple. Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala – they’re delicious. If I’m hungry, it tides me over. It quenches my thirst. It freshens my breathe. But, there’s more. Apples improve your immune system and help you in the battle with viruses, bacteria, and free radicals. They can’t cure diseases, but regular consumption of this magical fruit can help prevent many health problems. Apples may help prevent cancer. They may avert asthma. Detoxify your liver. Prevent cataracts. Neutralize irritable bowel syndrome. Apples may help to prevent high cholesterol and Alzheimer’s. And, these are just a few of the health benefits of apples.
So, be awesome to the core. Say YES! to a 3 o’clock apple. And, it may offer you some advice: Be well-rounded. Let your plans ripen. Hold onto core values. Know when to let go. Take a bite out of life! Enjoy.
